Just what are trolls?

Lise is a storyteller, and her book has wonderful tales from the land of trolls, Norway. The illustrations are woodcuts by Betsy Bowen.

Lise suggests, 'light a candle, or better yet, light the fire, gather the children, and enjoy the spell of the trolls'.

When you first enter the gates of tereland, remember the land of imagination is wild. There will be untame and dark forests, high mountains, and swift rivers. Be sure to tiptoe over bridges, so as not to wake the trolls! Be alert in the evening mountain darkness, for their huge slow moving shadows. Yet.... most trolls in tereland are gentle.
